Dr. Bruce Main, president of Urban Promise delivered the message this morning during both services. Dr. Main spoke on Colossians 3:15-7 using the Soren Kierkagaard quote, “What’s important is not the road you travel, but the way you travel the road you’re on” (or something like that…).

Our surroundings may not look very good. We may want to be on another “road”. We may be tempted to keep saying, “One day I’ll ___”. But our Creator is a God who turns the ordinary into opportunities.
Dr. Main told the story of an outing where a group of kids were taught Christmas carols. On their return trip, riding on an old bus with no heat, the kids started singing some of the Carols they had just learned. Amid the traffic and “ordinaryness” of route 42, God had created a special moment.
Dr. Main went on to say how a luxury bus returning from an Atlantic City casino trip pulled even with their bus on the adjacent lane. Behind the tinted windows of the other bus, he could see the occupants, comfortable in their overstuffed seats, viewing their individual video monitors, and sipping on their martinis.
The other bus was sharing the same highway, but they were on a different “road.” The other bus was enjoying the ordinary frills of life, but their bus was enjoying a special moment from God.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter which road you’re on. What matters is what you’re doing for God during your journey.
